So we know “console wars” have been going on since consoles even existed. If you don’t know what “console wars” is, it’s basically people arguing about which consoles they prefer and think are better. I personally think they are all great, and have their own unique features. But I am not here to argue about which I think are the best, and I probably will never do that. But I do want to talk about the one that has been left out a lot when it comes to gaming, but is all of a sudden getting a lot of attention… the Wii!
Since the release of Super Smash Bros Brawl the Wii is in the spotlight right now, and I am excited. I feel the Wii has been underestimated and is kind of left out in the gaming community. I think Nintendo did a great thing going outside of their comfort zone and risking a lot with this new technology that could revolutionize gaming. What is not to really love about the Wii?
I like it because it isn’t just for the hardcore gamer. Everyone enjoys it! It fondly reminds me of the days when all the neighborhood would be gathered in a basement playing Super Mario on the NES. It is so great because I can get other people to game with me who wouldn’t normally with other consoles. My friends, my family, and I can still pwn my brother at it too.
Did you also know that some nursing homes are getting Wii’s because it’s a fun and good way for the old folks to get excersize? I think that’s great! When I am old, I would want some games like that to play! I also think it is good for all of us. Wii Sports, and Wii Fit get us up off the couch and moving around a bit.
I guess what I am trying to say is, I know some of you Gamers have set aside your Wii and it is collecting dust. (I have heard from you myself.) But dust it off and play it! I think more great things are to come from it!

Gah, I so want a Wii. Ever since the old NES/SNES days ended and Nintendo became a money-sucking blackhole, I became a Playstation person. Still am, but there are times when I crave that Nintendo nostalgia of games like Super Mario and Legend of Zelda. And some of the other games just make me drool.
Unfortunately, consoles and even games are so expensive now, and if you’re broke like me, that’s not a good thing. Turning to used games stores like Gamestop or even to Amazon is a practical alternative, but it doesn’t help the industry.
And with the PS3 being so damned expensive, I’ve considered turning to the Wii. Of course, I always seem to just catch up the the latest console when they’re already talking about the release of the next one in line (cough, playstation, cough). I might end up getting a used Gamecube and satisfying my nostalgic cravings before I have the chance to get my hands on a Wii (which are hard enough to find as it is).
At any rate, you’re right. Nintendo is doing something revolutionary, and it is bringing us closer to the good ol’ days of old school gaming like with the NES. However, the Wii isn’t the only console lately to be overlooked—the PS3 isn’t getting much hype, either, with people complaining about the lack of games worthy of their money. Some people just aren’t willing to spend the cash (and a hell of a lot of it at that) yet, especially when they don’t feel the investment is good enough. What happened to the days when consoles were just consoles, not blu-ray/cd-playing/internet-upgrading machines? Some of us just want to play the games, but the constant rise in expense keeps making it harder to just, well, play.
